It is now a long time since I came back from the biggest hike I’ve ever done and the update is long due.
Ins these new series of posts, I’m sharing the Instagram posts I have done every day during the hike to keep family and friends updated on the evolution of the epic adventure.
#1milhaodepassos #onemillionstepshike Before I start I want to clarify that #tchauaíócatano is a small homage to one of the great Portuguese actors, António Feio, who passed away in 2010 victim of cancer. The phrase “Tchau aí ó Catano” was one of the most famous for his persona Toni in “Conversas da treta”. On top of an impressive career in theater, TV and movies, he left what I adopted as a keystone for my existence: “Don’t leave anything unsaid, anything undone”.
Day 1 (2021-Oct-20) – Queijas ->> Igreja de Santiago, Lisboa [24 Km, 31 312 steps]
#1milhaodepassos #onemillionstepshike The first stage of the #onemillionstepshike is complete. It comprised the connection between my home and the official start of the #caminhodesantiago in #lisboa. Until the end of the week, I will start hiking at the end of my working day. From Saturday onward, they will become full-day hikes. Tomorrow is another day!! #tchauaíócatano
Day 2 (2021-Oct-21) – Igreja de Santiago ->> Sacavém [23 Km, 25 393 steps]
#1milhaodepassos #onemillionstepshike day 2 is complete. It started at Santiago’s church, #lisboa, where the Portuguese Central way begins, going through #alfama, #marvila where I couldn’t miss the opportunity to have a beer at @doiscorvos. After that, I came across the company that I work for, and which provided us with an unbelievable support 2 years ago, in a particularly difficult moment in our lives. The stage ended at Sacavém train station.
Portway industrial area. Need to come back for serious photos
Day 3 (2021-Oct-22) – Sacavém ->> Alverca [23 Km, 31 303 steps]
#1milhaodepassos #onemillionstepshike 3rd day is complete. This was the last part-time stage. From now on it will be full days of hiking and longer stages. Today’s start was where I left off yesterday, at Sacavém train station. Soon after the kick off the path enters a surprising dirt trail right from the center of the place. The trail follows the Trancão river, coming pretty close to the MARL. It also crosses the village of Forte da casa and finally Alverca where today’s jurney comes to an end. So far the path is well marked and it shares Fátima path (#caminhodefatima) for the initial 120 km. Tomorrow is another day. #tchauaíócatano
